I do want to be a counseling psychologist, but I may not get a Ph.D. I'm concerned about having a substantial salary because besides doing something I feel good about, I no longer want to be worried about bills all the time.

I hope to be able to help my family as well, and therefore, I'd like to consider salary when planning out my career path.

Thanks : )

Don't expect to make a whole lot. In this growing field, without a doctoral degree or licensure, your chances are $35,000 and up. Depending on where you'll be employed. Wrap around and school counseling pay more than community MH OP or others. If you really feel like you want to be in this profession, then go for it. But keep in mind, bills are something you'll still be worried about. Don't want to discourage you. Some people make as much as 50,000 but again it depends. Ask around, search online, call employers.

Best of luck

i just graduated from Sydney Uni as a bachelor of psychology. Is it possible for me to take a master degree in the usa? Will i be able to work as a psychologist in USA?thank you

Sure!

Contact the universities you're interested in attending and find out what their admission requirements are. You'll want to check websites and find out what prerequisite courses you may be missing for a program in the US. (You may be missing none at all.)

I don't know what immigration laws apply, and they've changed lately so there will be some research to do in that area.

Except for immigration laws I might not know about there is no reason you could not work as a psychologist in the US. However, I will point out that in the US, typically a psychologist has a PhD. You can work as a counsellor or therapist with a Master's degree, though.

There are PhD programs that you can start immediately after earning a bachelor's degree, though. Many of these allow you to earn a master's on the way to your PhD.

I am wanting to focus on Clinical psychology as in counseling

First, look into the difference between "clinical psychology" and "counseling psychology." More than a few on both sides of that fence dislike being mistaken for the other.

In at least some states you can get licensed as a Counselor, Marriage & Family Therapist, Mental Health Counselor, or Marriage, Family & Child Counselor with a masters (from an appropriate program) + internship. And it will pay better than working at Burger King, but generally not a whole lot better.

I am considering a degree in teen/family counseling, and was just wondering if anyone knows someone who has a career in that field that would know an average salary. Most salary averages for counselors are for rehab, school, occupation, etc…i haven't found many averages for my specific field. it would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Check the Department of Labor website. They list almost every career path including education level and salary
